This year, Animateka is taking place from December 8th to 14th. In the Competition Programme, starting on Tuesday and focusing on short animation films from Eastern and Central Europe, we will search for the winners determined by our International Jury and the festival Audience (monetary award is presented by MasterCard Europe). We will Focus on Poland (starting on Tuesday) and Short Basque Film (starting on Wednesday). The Elephant Children’s Programme is this year for the first time also a competitive section in which the Children’s Jury will select the best film of their choice (monetary award is presented by NLB Vita). Best of the Rest will feature the international winners of animation festivals 2008. While the programme will also include three feature-length animation films – the family film Azur & Asmar, the animated horror Fear(s) of the Dark and the documentary Quirino Cristiani: The Mystery of the First Animated Movies.
The Accompanying Programme is certainly not to be overlooked this year. The Kinodvor Gallery will stage the works of the great virtuoso of painted cel animation, Georges Schwizgebel. We have also prepared an exhibition of engravings from Regina Pessoa’s latest film Tragic Story With Happy Ending in the International Centre of Graphic Arts in Ljubljana. And let us remind you that the Kinodvor Café will host our Working Breakfasts from Tuesday to Friday, and you can Meet the Filmmakers from Wednesday to Saturday at 1 p.m. Last but not least, come to our Festival Midnight Gatherings!
We invite you to vote for your favourite animated film for the web on our online AnimaWeb Contest, and attend our Wednesday’s Working Breakfast, where international Internet experts will present and debate the possibilities of Internet as a democratic distribution channel, and comment on the films in AnimaWeb competition, projected on the screen at the Kinodvor Café.
Visit our online daily newspaper, where you can find film reviews, video-interviews and daily festival highlights. A detailed timetable and festival programme is also at your disposal.
This year we have made an extra effort to dress up the Kinodvor cinema in the brush stroke style of our Artist in Residence Georges Schwizgebel.
Enjoy!
