The 21st edition of International Animated Film Festival Animateka is inviting authors of short animations to submit their films for the Main Competition Programme, The Elephant in Competition Programme, European Young Talents Competition Programme and VR@ANIMATEKA Competition Programme!
The second edition of the Rise & Shine Animation Lab for young talents and their short films hosted 11 amazing projects. Among them, two prizes were awarded yesterday: the Rise & Shine 2023 winning project and the CEE Animation Forum 2024 prize.
We reveal the winners of this year’s 20th Animateka Awards in all four competition programmes. Who won the Grand, Student and Elephant Jury prizes and which films impressed the audience the most?
Meet this year’s Grand Jury, which decides the winners of the Main Competition Programme and the VR Competition Programme. This year we are again extremely proud of our jurors, Portuguese “animation poet” Alexandra Ramires, South African charcoal storytelling master Naomi van Niekerk, Austrian “sustainable animation” artist Nikki Schuster, South Korean animation star Dahee Jeong and Romanian Anim’est Festival Programme Director Mihai Mitrica.
On Saturday, December 2, 2023, a presentation of animated projects in the making for young talents Rise & Shine will take place within the framework of AnimatekaPRO. In cooperation with CEE Animation and the World Animated Film Festival Animafest Zagreb, we prepared Rise & Shine, a two-part event for projects in development.
The programme brings to the audience a thoughtfully selected collection of outstanding short audiovisual works by female and female-identifying filmmakers from the last editions of the Animation Festival Network member festivals.
BAP was created in 2011 as the animation studio of Bando à Parte. In 2018 it became autonomous as a cooperative: BAP ANIMATION STUDIO – an animation production company, formed by a collective of directors, animators and storytellers who believe in the power of collaboration. At Animateka, they will present themselves on Friday, December 1st, with a Masterclass at AnimatekaPRO and a short film programme.
Octopus Banana Hotchpotch is a playful exhibition that takes you behind the scenes of the eponymous animated film by Milanka Fabjančič. It is also a standalone experience that imbues the exhibition space of Kresija Gallery with the film’s core idea – an emotional and humorous anatomy of a friendship between two women, Mila and Mara.
We dedicate this anniversary edition to the memory of our friend and colleague Paul Bush, who passed away much too soon earlier this year. On the opening night of Animateka, we will dedicate the evening to the memory of Paul Bush with a selection of animations, as well as presenting this year’s retrospective on the history of collage and screening the film programme selected by the festival jury.
