The 20th edition of the Animateka International Animated Film Festival officially opens today!

We dedicate this anniversary edition to the memory of our friend and colleague Paul Bush, who passed away much too soon earlier this year. On the opening night of Animateka, we will dedicate the evening to the memory of Paul Bush with a selection of animations, as well as presenting this year’s retrospective on the history of collage and screening the film programme selected by the festival jury.

This year we are also extremely proud of our jurors, the Portuguese “animation poetess” Alexandra Ramires, the South African master of charcoal storytelling Naomi van Niekerk, the Austrian sustainable animation artist Nikki Schuster, the South Korean animation star Dahee Jeong, and the programme director of the Romanian Anim’est Festival, Mihai Mitrica.

The Main Jury will decide the winners in the Main Competition and VR Competition sections, the Student Jury in the European Young Talents section and the Children’s Jury in the The Elephant in Competition section. With great effort, we carefully selected the best animated shorts from the 625 entries, including 182 for the Elephant in Competition, 288 for the European Young Talents Competition, 131 for the Main Competition and 24 for the VR Competition, and ranked them in the four Animateka 2023 Competition Programmes.
