AFN Edu Workshop: THE ANIMATED LIFE OF SOUNDS

30. 11. – 2. 12.
Slovenian Cinematheque

The Animation Festival Network educational programme, AFN Edu, proudly presents its third animation workshop for young professionals and students. It will take place during the 21st Animateka International Animated Film Festival in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The intense three-day workshop will be led by renowned sound designer Andrea Martignoni. The aim of the workshop is to try the experiment of animating from a sound or a short sound event, trying to transform the original meaning of the sound by giving it a different interpretation, possibly ironic and perhaps funny, as will be shown in the examples.

Tutor: Andrea Martignoni
Andrea Martignoni (Bologna, 1961) studied Geography at the University of Bologna until 1994. In 2005 he received an additional diploma in music after a stay at the Cinémathèque québécoise in Montréal. Based on his extensive knowledge of the history of animated film, he created numerous sound designs for the genre, including Fino (2006), Muto (2008) and Big Bang Big Boom (Best Soundtrack in Dresden Intl. Short Film Festival 2011) by Blu. He also collaborated with animation filmmakers Saul Saguatti and Pierre Hébert and has organised frequent audiovisual performances with artists like Basmati and the Compagnia d’Arte Drummatica. He regularly conducts workshops in co-operation with cultural centres and international film festivals.

AFN Edu is aimed at reaching and developing young filmmakers by introducing them to the world of animation industry, experts and future collaborators through a series of lectures and workshops as well as networking opportunities at each festival.
Alongside AFN, connecting five leading animation festivals from Central and Eastern Europe, partners of the programme also include renowned animation schools, such as Studio of Animation and Interactive Art at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (CZ), VŠMU Bratislava (SK), School of Arts Nova Gorica (SI), National University of Theater and Film – UNATC “I.L.Caragiale” in Bucharest (RO), and Academy of Fine Arts Zagreb (HR).
