Animateka’s workshops for youth and children

13.11.2024

You are kindly invited to Animateka’s workshops for young creatives!

Join us for three unforgettable workshops where we will bring works of art to life with stop-motion animation, explore the mysteries of optical toys and create in the imaginative world of clay! The workshops will take place in December at various locations in Ljubljana and participants will create short animated films under the guidance of experts.

1. Artworks on the Run

Where: MSUM
When: 4. 12. 2024, 16.00–19.00
Age: 9+
INFO: delavnice@animateka.si

At the workshop, we take a walk through the works of art, which are usually found sitting idly in the museum, and choose one to use as a starting point for our project. Using stop-motion animation, we bring the chosen artwork to life by transforming the animation into a special format that allows the artwork to come alive when viewed through the camera of a phone, thanks to the technology of Augmented Reality (AR). Where will the artworks escape to when they move beyond the frame?

2. Spin It to Life

Where: Center Rog
When: 6. 12. 2024, 16.00–19.00
Age: 10+
INFO: delavnice@animateka.si

Have you ever spun a record and danced to it? There is a special optical toy, called PHONOTROPE, that is made using a record player – the forerunner of many other music players. If you drew pictures on vinyl records, you could watch them dance as they spun. But is it even possible to see the drawings when they are spinning so fast? To learn the technical secret of this special animation device, join the workshop. With the help of the tutors and the tools available at the Rog Centre, each participant will make their own device and create a short rotating animation.

3. Clayland

Where: Slovenian Cinematheque
When: 7. 12. 2024, 17.00–19.00
Age: 8+
INFO: delavnice@animateka.si

In this workshop, we travel to a curious world called Clayland. This is a place where all the trees, clouds and rays of sunshine are specially shaped, soft and supple. They are constantly changing and adapting under the deft fingers of the animators. Using coloured clay, we will learn how to bring it to life by means of stop-motion animation. We will animate flying fish, colourful fireworks and other fun-to-explore phenomena.
