On 12 December, the artist Anja Resman will take us behind the scenes of the making of the animation and show us a puppet from the film, which we will be able to bring to life ourselves. Registration is required for the workshop.

Rise & Shine is a project development and pitching lab for first and second-time professional filmmakers with their short films (up to 20 minutes), organized by Animafest Zagreb and Animateka in collaboration with CEE Animation in three modules: focus on script, project follow-up, focus on pitch.
Animateka offers a range of exciting content for young people, including Kinotrip’s Best of teh World, the feature films Flow and Memoir of a Snail as well as our VR programme.
The 21st edition of Animateka will officially open with a program that, among other things, voices support for Palestinians with a screening of a film made recently in a workshop in a refugee camp in Gaza. The Children’s Jury is the one who decides on The Elephant Children Jury Award, for films in the Elephant in Competition programme. A monetary award in the amount of €1,000.
On the eve of the opening of the 21st Animateka, we will be warming up at the Slovenian Cinematheque with a programme of short experimental animated films from the Square Eyes distribution company, led by one of animateka’s international jurors, Wouter Jansen.
Our festival platform AnimatekaPRO is running alongside the film programme at the Old Power Station in the mornings from 3 till 7 December. AnimatekaPRO is a festival platform that takes you behind the scenes of animated filmmaking through a series of masterclasses and conversations with filmmakers.
This year’s VR competition presents a collection of immersive experiences that push the boundaries of animation, narrative, and the role of the viewer. On display of +MSUM, from December 2 to 8 (between 10am and 6pm). Free entry.

Kinotrip’s Best of the World brings a youthfully offbeat, feistily engaged, and stylistically diverse set of eight films that take us into varied emotional landscapes.
Between November 30 and December 8, the exhibition by Animateka 2024 artist-in-residence, Chintis Lundgren will be on display at Kinodvor Gallery. The exhibition will include original drawings from the animations Life with Herman H. Rott (2015), Manivald (2017), and Toomas Beneath the Valley of the Wild Wolves (2019).
Animateka is part of Keep Festive – a collective initiative that stands against any sort of harassment and helps festival organizers create a safer space for everyone involved in the event.
On November 29th at 7PM, at DLUL Gallery, we will open the exhibition Three Birds by Zarja Menart, at which you will be able to see original drawings and paintings that the artist has made by layering translucent papers and using oil paints and drypoint in order to construct her animated film Three Birds.
We present to you this year’s Student Jury that will give out Young talent: Student Jury Award, awarded for the best film in the European Young Talents Competition Programme, worth €1,500.

A historical retrospective of debut films by some of the biggest names of animation. From the pioneers, including the first animated feature The Adventures of Prince Achmed (Lotte Reiniger, 1926), to names that have shaped, or continue to shape, the world of animation. The pioneers’ programmes will be accompanied with live music by Polona Janežič and Andrej Goričar.

Meet the Estonian artist who has created this year’s festival visual identity. As she told us, this year’s look was inspired by the mysterious creatures she met during her many visits to Animateka.
Ten participants will be selected for workshops of film journalism and criticism, which now also include a video component. Between December 2024 and October 2025, each GoCritic! participant will have the opportunity to professionally develop at two or more of the following festivals: Animafest Zagreb, Fest Anča, Anifilm, Animest and Animateka.
